Left handed serial numbers ?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Left handed serial numbers ?

Post by SouthpawGuy »

I did a search in the registry on a block of serial numbers, G001200 to G001800. The search was on all models, all colours etc. from 1980 to 2011 and I didn't specify "left handed" or any extra text in the search.

The search of 600 serial numbers returned 35 instruments and of those 22 were left handed guitars, dating from 1980 to 1993. It seems unusual that a block of 600 numbers could take thirteen years to be used up and that such a high percentage were left handed guitars.

Made me wonder if there were blocks of serial numbers reserved for lefty guitars ?

... and before anyone asks, no I don't mean the numbers were backwards. :shocked028:

Hey Southpawguy,

But there would be a difference, wouldn't it? For the the numbers to read L-to-R when the back is up and the neck points away from you, the S/N reads from bass side to treble side on a righty but from treble to bass side on a lefty ... :eh:

OK, lets see who I can fool with that one ... ;)

I do not know the real answer. Maybe since lefties were assembled at some special workstation or by a particular person, they had a box with neck plates there that was a particular batch that was slowly used over time. Great observation though!
