Help me decide whether or not to buy a S-500

Post by rockworthy »

Ok, this may seem a little childish but I'm kinda struggling with buying a USA S-500 because I have a USA Legacy Standard already. So I'm asking for your opinions if I should buy it or not. Here's the deal.
I bought my Legacy Standard because it fit my budget at the time but I really wanted an S-500 but the difference if I remember was $500-$600 if I remember correctly and that just wasnt in my budget. I stumble onto a USA S-500 that was bought new only five months ago and is in mint condition. The price is $700.

I know the S-500's are a little darker sounding than the Legacy's and they have the mini toggle for more tone options but do I really need it? I'm into blues mostly and my other electric is a ASAT Classic-S which I love to death. What should I do?

rockworthy,

If you love the Classic S, you'll probably love the S-500. FWIW, I've owned an ASAT Classic in the past, and now have a S-500 and Legacy. Sometimes it feels like having the Legacy and S-500 is a little redundant because they're both three single coil guitars. I do tend to prefer the S-500, though. I wouldn't say that the S-500 is darker, actually between the S-500/Legacy pair I own now, and a pair in the past, I'd say that the S-500 is a brighter and more aggressive guitar due to the pickups. YMMV.

That probably didn't help any. If you can try the S-500 before you buy it, that would be the best way. If not, I guess you could probably get your money back out of the S-500 if that particular guitar wasn't for you. That's one benefit of buying used.

Take care,
Paul

The S-500 is a Blues machine, if you've wanted one buy this one! $700. is a great price for a five month old Guitar.
