just bought a Comanche mIA

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

just bought a Comanche mIA

Post by diverse379 »

I recently heard of these G&L guitars previously I didnt know what they were.

I bought a used comanche from a pawn shop not a particularly pretty guitar
it is wine colored with a plain white pickguard

with the crazy z pickups
the guitar felt very very solid to me
unlike my fenders or my prs se

so I felt something was very good about this guitar
I paid 800 for it
I didnt want to spend this much but I felt for an american guitar I was doing pretty good.

well I already own a mexian strat and a mexican tele
do I keep these or will this guitar end up replacing the others.
I really cant afford to have four guitars right now.

but I have heard so many good things about G&L I bought the guitar on principle

I will tell what sold me I played some flamenco on the guitar and was blown away by how much like an acoustic it sounded.
not sure what pick up I used.

one more question
the bridge seems like it is really straining against the strings
I notice there were only two springs in the back is that normal
shouldnt it be three or five.?

are these pickups that are in there the best choices or are their other pick ups that are offered by other companies
I couldnt find any at seymour duncan?

You did OK at $800 thats about the going rate, you won't need them mexi fenders any longer. There are no replacement pickups for a comanche that I know of, the pups in are damn good ones anyway, look in the knowledgebase section of this site in the FAQ for the article "Comanche for dummies" by Boogie Bill, it will familiarize tyou with the guitar and it's a great article.

Nice score, I think we need to see some pics to verify it's existance though.

Not to keen on your comparing the solidity of a top notch guitar with some imports though, not fair to the G&L to compare to anything but USA fender (hell I compare them with custom shop fendeR) or any other made in the USA guitars.
