The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

American Legacy CLF40531 or trade for "I" Series U.S. Strat

Post by bluesboy89 »

I have been having trouble finding any great amount of info on either of these guitars. I currently own a American made Legacy and the serial number is CLF40531 supposedly its either a special or a legacy HB, not really sure. But it has the Fulcrum Bridge, the headstock matches the body color. American Sperzel Tuners, the pick guard has a kind of mint hue to it. Rosewood fretboard, the finish is Candy Apple Red I believe. It has one graphite string tree. One Volume Pot, two tone pot's, one of the tone pot's is a mid range reducer I believe is what its called. It came with a Deluxe Gig Bag.

I know this is a G&L forum and I don't hold one thing against them. But I am trying to trade my G&L for an American Strat. My Question is would it be worth trading for a Strat, the only 3 things I don't like about my Legacy is I need a Humbucker for the blues I play and I'm not able to afford a Gibson or something with HB's. The Neck is really weird to me it just seems cheap like an Ibanez, and The PU's Hum a lot, which If It I'm gonna upgrade to Fender Noiseless PU's. But I'm considering trading for an American made Fender Stratocaster known as the "I" Series made from 89'-90' they we're an export series made in the U.S. then shipped to Japan. It has Rosewood Fretboard, Alder Body painted Black, I think the PU's are Alinco. The Made in U.S.A is stamped on the Heel of the Neck which is rare. Other than that the Price of the Instruments are close, because the Legacy is such a well built and respected instrument and the same for the Strat plus its rareness. Any help on a decision will be much appreciated.

[Admin note: I have pm'd poster about our no For Sale/Want Ad policy and asked that he put an ad in the Marketplace,
should he decide to sell the Legacy]

Sounds like you have neither a Legacy Special or a Legacy HB. The Special has single coil sized humbucker blade type pickups. The HB model has a humbucker in the bridge.

There is a Legacy in the registry within three instruments of yours ....

Same specs, colour and matching headstock, mint pickguard

Looks like you have an upgraded Legacy with the stock alnico single coil pickups. The Strat you are considering will be no more or less noisy as it will also have single coil pickups.

Some shots of my own Legacys, all left handed. Purely for instructional, educational purposes.
( Yeah right ! )

and for good measure a Legacy 2HB with twin humbuckers

For all out rock the Special or 2HB would be my choice.

Forgot to mention that the Legacy 2HB and Legacy Special have locking tuners, the Legacy and Legacy HB generally don't, but can be ordered with them.
