The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Type of finish on G&L ASAT

Post by splyt »

My father has, I believe, the Legacy HB and I was trying to figure out the finish type (Nitro, Poly, etc.). Is there a general feel to the type that G&L uses?

Thanks.

Hi splyt,

G&L use poly on all guitars except the Rustic instruments. For the latter they use nitro and they are artificially aged.

The earliest instruments were shot with Nitrocellulose Lacquer and beginning in 1980. I think they only used Nitro finish
for a couple of years (not sure of the actual timeline). They switched to Polyurethane and continue to use this for all
instruments up until last year, when they introduced the Rustic line. The Rustic line is shot with Nitrocellulose Lacquer.

Your father's Legacy HB would definitely have the Polyurethane finish, if it has not been refinished.

Hope this helps.
