Black & Chrome G&L Logo Tuners

Post by Sprinter 92 »

I've seen G&L's with black tuners and chrome tuners. My recently acquired '84 Superhawk has tuners with a black housing with chrome keys and logo.

I'm not sure if these are OEM or if someone has altered them. Has anyone else seen a set of keys like these?

Is the black still a metal housing? They remind me of the first set of Schallers I bought 30 years ago for my Hondo II LP knock-off. In that case the housing was plastic. Hence my question. The tuners don't seem to be perfectly aligned. But still, although changing out the knobs might be easy enough, stamping the plate with a G&L logo and/or pop out the originals and align the new ones properly seems like a non-trivial task to me. So it looks OEM to me.

I think the housings are metal. I'll take one tuner off and examine it closely next time I restring it.
