Guitar Identification - Legacy USA

Post by hashmapO1 »

Hello everyone! This is my first time joining GbL and posting so hopefully this is the correct place/way to post this!

My grandpa passed last year and I got one of his guitars. He was a band director in Anaheim, CA back in the day and loved his guitars and instruments.

I'm having a little difficulty knowing what exactly it is. I believe it's ~1993. The serial number is G034601. But some of the things I see on it feel like a Legacy Special and not a Legacy. He modded the blade pickup selector with three switches to control each pickup on/off. I have the original pickup selector and have included photos of it as well. I believe that was the only mod (except maybe the locking tuners?). I'm having trouble finding what pickups they are. And just any details about the guitar?

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi hashmap01 welcome!

Great story behind your legacy, love all the band directors out there. Wish I could help with dating, those look look like G&L blade pickups, see online catalog.

Tried the G&L registry and unfortunately not registered. https://guitarsbyleo.com/AUTOREG/

Someone else here can probably help. Love the switch mod, makes me think of the ASAT Studio VI.

Welcome again and be sure to come around often.

Your link does not work but gives this error:
403. That’s an error.

We're sorry, but you do not have access to this page. That’s all we know.
Here is your link which will open up in a new tab:

It is a Legacy model but was modded with dual rail type pickups.
The standard Legacy Special would have a "Legacy Special" model decal on the headstock.
The pickups that Sam pointed to are the original G&L Legacy Special pickups which are built by Gotoh to G&L' s specifications.
The pickups in your guitar have black rails which might indicate that they are Kent Armstrong Blade pickups. G&L did use them
as replacements when they could not get them from Gotoh from time to time. See this post for details: List of pickups used in G&L guitars

I sent an email to Memo Romero [G&L/BBE Service Manager] to lookup the S/N on this guitar to get the specifications and completion date.

Hope this helps.
