RIP The Jam drummer Rick Buckler

Post by sam »

Said it before and I'll say it again, this is happening too often lately. Just saw news of Rick Buckler's death tonight (69) and The Jam were a big part of my music in the early eightes.

I was late to the scene for The Jam living in northern Indiana at the time but was hooked with the 1980 release Sound Affects. Saw the album in a music rag of some kind and the write up was so good I special ordered it at our local record shop. Yep, back when small towns only had limited records and if you knew the owner you could get something special ordered. I was hooked and unfortunately they broke up in 1982.

Rick Bucklers back beat on Pretty Green and But I'm Different Now from that release, and earlier songs In the City and Art School from In the City added so much to their overall sound.

Great band, great drummer, these videos take me back to days when I thought I would add a Rickenbacker to my guitar list and wondered why The Jam were not HUGE in the US?!?

I missed out on these guys. I listened to a lot of late 70s and early 80s bands from the UK but I don't every recall hearing of these guys. Meh, Canada is weird sometimes. Seemed like a tight bunch.
