Today's topics were both inspired by Sam and his quest for that '68 Twin. A few months back I was perusing FB Marketplace like I often do when I'm bored and out of nowhere a G&L SC-1 appeared locally. I have never seen an SC-1 anywhere near me, the last SC series I saw was around 2013 when I bought an SC-2. Sold that one but it would have been it's twin, black/maple with DFV

Anyway, I jumped on it immediately and luck was with me that day. A day later I picked it up on my way to work. By "on my way" I mean 2 hours in the opposite direction of work

Totally worth the time, the drive etc. and I really enjoy the whole process of finding gear this way. It's like a treasure hunt, sometimes it doesn't end the way we want or expect it to and other times you find some really amazing gear and meet some really great people.
Overall this SC-1 in great shape, has the trem arm, original case, some beautiful figuring on the neck, needs a full setup/intonation but everything looks original.
Here it is with my Lil' dawg D-lux in a homemade 1x15 combo cab that was my first attempt at building anything like that, it's not the prettiest but the amp sounds awesome

Do you enjoy the thrill of the hunt?
How far have you driven for a piece of gear?
The other inspiration for today was in regards to Sam's LR from October 23rd, specifically the EV SRO's he's got in that Twin. I first ran into these speakers in a big 70's 2x12 Fender cabinet. The reason I say big cab is because at that time in Fender's history they decided putting a 2x12 baffle in a 2x15 cab was the way to go so the thing was huge!
I was looking for the small (normal size) 2x12 that went with the '65 Bandmaster that I had at the time. Found a guy selling the small cab and when I showed up he offered me both cabs for a deal I couldn't refuse. The purchase came with a furniture dolly, I should have know right then

So I get the cabs home and open them up and sure enough the big cab was loaded with two EV SRO's with the AlNiCo "coffee can" magnets. They sound glorious but man are the heavy!
Flash forward to yesterday, I remembered I have one of those still hanging around. It's not one of the two I found in the story above, those had the original cones. This one I acquired later and had been re-coned at some point. It's been sitting in my closet because I recall it not sounding nearly as glorious as the other ones. The re-cone isn't the best looking job and you haven't been able to get the original cone in many years at this point so I kinda just wrote it off. Sam's post inspired me to dig the SRO out of storage and give it another go, I'm going to pop it in a cabinet tomorrow. As a bonus it looks like Weber may actually re-cone these now since releasing their version "the Michigan" so if it still doesn't sound great I may send it off to them.
Have any Lunch reports inspired you lately?
Hope you had a great lunch!
