G&L Double Barrel

Not from Santa but recently picked up an old G&L Double Barrel Vari-boost on the cheap and briefly tried out, it may have a place as a solo boost not an always on pedal. 30db boost is definitely more noticeable than my BBE Boosta Grande 20db boost. It has independent high and low controls that I do not hear an appreciable difference with adjustments, it could just be my ear or not enough time with the pedal. Don’t think it will knock the Boosta Grande off my board but it’s a cool boost.

It was discontinued years ago, maybe as BBE brand replaced G&L on the pedals. Boosta Grande doesn’t have the Hi - Lo controls, perhaps the controls didn’t offer enough variation so they were left off.

Anybody have a G&L Double Barrel and what do you think?

Congratulations, I had never even heard of it; I had to look it up. Seems like a cool piece of G&L history if nothing else. Is it rare? I don't even see a demo on Youtube
I have never tried any of the BBE pedals either.
There is a demo for the Buckshot- a couple of these for sale too but they are a little expensive

Yep, that’s why I got it. Found one cheap and just wanted one for G&L nostalgia and only see one thread in GLDP but not much there. Will post pics and more details over the weekend. Someone here may have more insight.

After a little more use and comparing the Double Barrel with the BBE Boosta Grande a better feeling on this pedal.

Unfortunately can’t find any video examples but the boost is definitely stronger with the Double Barrel but I still don’t hear significant difference between hi and low knobs. Could be why this was discontinued. The Boosta Grande must have incorporated the best mix of hi and low frequency and boost reduced to 20dB from 30dB. The Boosta Grande has been an always on the board for a number of years and not sure the Double Barrel will replace but I will keep it on one board for sure for bigger leads. It’s definitely a big clean boost.
