Advice on a new G&L

Post by shepherd »

Hello,

I have been looking for the right new G&L to add to my small collection and I am running into some issues. I can't seem to find a model has has all these things very easily.

Here is what I am looking for...

-MFD humbuckers

-Preferably a 7.5 radius but could do 9.5

-Would prefer a hardtail

-Medium Jumbo frets-I have discovered over the years that as much as I like vintage guitars, I don't feel that great about vintage frets.

I have been trying to find the right vintage F 100 for what seems like a long time now, and while some are out there, all would probably have vintage frets, and most seem to need that addressed up front. Any issue with putting some medium jumbo on one of those?

I think the Doheny V12 is the closest current-non custom option.

I wish I could afford a fully custom guitar, but sadly can not.

Any suggestions on other options I might be missing?

Thank you

I think the Doheny V12 is the only stock guitar with MFD Humbuckers. Maybe try an Espada? It has split MFD pickups. Don't know if they are humbucking.

You are correct, the only current MFD humbuckers we make are the V12 pickups for the Doheny. Espada pickups are noiseless, but I wouldn't necessarily call them a humbucker.

You wouldn't be able to get a hard tail V12 unless you went custom. I guess you could block a stock one though. V12's are excellent guitars though. Very versitile.

Thanks for the replies!

I do think the V12 is a cool guitar. Just not 100% on the JMish shape being the most comfortable for me. I did play one recently and it very versatile, I agree. I like how the DF brdge works too. Just feel like my ASAT with the saddle lock has amazing sustain in comparison. I will try the V12 again.

Espada looks cool, but definitely want the humbuckers. Have considered a vintage Sabre II, but that is another path altogether.

Anyone have experience replacing vintage frets with larger ones?

Thanks

Since March of this year, G&L added the CLF Research models to the Build To Order price lists, see:

3/1/2024-7/31/2024 Build To Order Specifications & Options.
8/1/2024-present Build To Order Specifications & Options.

The G&L website is not yet up to date and not all 2024 changes have been completed yet.

Hope this helps.

I'd love a semi-hollow blues boy with a MFD humbucker hashed in at the neck. Sweeeeet..
