Gem of an SC-2 and interested in far more detail.

Post by Dilapidus »

Hi all! Long time lurker, first time poster (ok... one comment years ago).

Just received an SC-2 (registered here of course) and love it so far. Still getting to know each other but so far it is going well. Seems like a total closet queen and no red flags that I have seen.

Bridge stamped serial number: G011486
Neck: 11 582 This date is somewhat ambiguous but I'm guessing Nov 5
Body: OCT 11 82

My presumptions are down below and pics provided. Do I need to be corrected here? Not that it matters, this guitar is never leaving my collection.

I presume that is a Fiesta Red with some fading, but I can't see evidence that they were made in FR.
That appears to be the "First" body type
That appears to be a "lawsuit" headstock (although I think there was no actual lawsuit)

And the pics:

Hey Dilapidus! :greet:

Big congratulations on yer score, closet queen for sure! Lucky man you are.

Look forward to hearing your tone report. Being an ASAT fanatic and the similarities I can only say you will enjoy the journey. :alright:

Here is the 1983 Ad Slick for the SC-* guitars:

Your Red SC-2's finish has aged to the current color. It would have looked like the Red SC-1 in the Ad when it is was completed.

G&L did not use Fiesta Red (but called it Fullerton Red) until the George Fullerton Signature model was released in 1995-96.

Hope this helps.

Wow.. that is very cool and yes, that helps a lot, but aren't you supposed to be on vacation ? ;-)

Congratulations, that is a nice find, the paint doesn't look too faded. Let us know how you get on with it.

From the ad that Craig kindly posted, I didn't know that the SC-1 and 2 were available as hardtails and also that they didn't have the tilt-neck.

Oh wow! I didn't even notice that but mine is clearly a tilt neck. I adjusted it after getting neck and pocket pictures (you can see my tilt bits in the picture) Maybe a neck swap? Maybe they just shipped it that way.

It may have been that the tilt-neck wasn't on the 1 and 2 at the time of the ad but it was included on later guitars or it could easily just be an omission in the ad.

Yeah.. or that's just the only neck that was handy at the time <grin>. My build date is what? 3 months into the SC-2 life cycle. It was definitely a different time.

Maybe the sales brochure is a misprint? I don't think it would make sense to make them different.

That's probably the best theory. We could get a close look at the neck plate on some here if we wanted to verify.

I found these two online, both of which have a clear hole under the single bolt. So I have to presume Tooslowhand and KevinGNL are exactly correct.

Well... There's a first time for everything, at least in my case :)

I think it's more that it just isn't mentioned in the blurb for the SC-1 and 2 - but is specifically listed for the 3 - that made me assume that it wasn't fitted on those models. Similarly, from looking further at that ad, there isn't any mention that a case is supplied for the 1 and 2 but, again, it has a line in the 3's description.

I wonder if the description for the SC-3 was written later and fitted on to the same page? Another (very nerdy) spot is that the same colours are listed in but are in different orders in the two descriptions.
