CLR Research Skyhawk Tremolo Arm stem too long

CLR Research Skyhawk Tremolo Arm stem too long

New to the G&L community but just got a Skyhawk that I love but the one thing that is bugging me is the tremolo arm. I"m convinced the stem is too long (or the socket is too shallow). The bend starts much too high above the top of the socket. I even bought an extra arm and socket and the result is the same. But I've seen pictures of other recent CLR Skyhawks where the arm is able to go further in (and thus the first bend starts closer to the socket). Did G&L change how they bend the arm? How deep into the sock the arm is able to go? As you can see there the socket is longer than the amount of the arm that is able to go in. I suspect the inside of the threaded portion of the socket is tapered so that the arm is not able to go all the way in.
