I need help to get information about my legacy special

Post by Francisco Quintanal »

greetings to all. This is the first time I am writing in this forum and I am doing it to see if someone can help me get information about my legacy special. I would like to get as much as I can: wood with which it is built, place of construction and especially year of manufacture, but it is a guitar that I bought second-hand and it did not bring papers so all I have is its serial number. I do not know if there is any registry or site where I could consult it so I am getting in touch with you in case someone can help me. The serial number is: CLF11806. Thanks a lot

I checked our G&L Registry here on this site to see if your guitar was registered by a previous owner but did not find an entry for it.
I did a range search of the serial number and estimate the build year to be 1999.
I've sent an email request to one of my G&L contacts at the factory to lookup your S/N in the factory log and get the specs and completion date of your guitar.

The closest G&L Catalog and Dealer Pricelist we have in or Gallery is for 1998. Here are the links:
Album: 1998 G&L Catalog.
Album: February 1, 1998 Dealer Price List.

I will follow up with a post once I hear back from my G&L contact.

Please do post some photos [front and back] of your guitar. See: Tutorial: Posting photos.

Hope this helps and look forward to see your photos.

Thank you very much Craig, right now I'm not at home and I don't have photos to send, but in two days I'll be back and I'll make a few and post them here.

I just heard back from my contact at the factory:
Hi Craig,
That is a Legacy Special natural ash, with a rosewood neck production date is September 29 1999, all the best.
So, your guitar has a Swamp Ash body with a Clear Gloss finish. The hard-rock Maple neck has a Rosewood fingerboard.

Please do add your guitar to our G&L Registry.

Hope this helps.

Were the original G&L blade pickups included from the seller? And do you know what the pickups are in it now?
I also note that the stock nut (Graph-Tech graphite nut) has been replaced, too.
I wonder if the electronics have also been modified. To see the factory wiring and pots, see this in our Gallery: Album: Legacy Special Diagrams

Hello: it has a set of Kinnman AVN series pickups, unfortunately it did not come with the original pickups when I bought it, the nut I changed for a bone one and the wiring I put it like a stratocaster with the volume, the tone of the neck pickup and the middle one on the upper tone pot and the bridge pickup on the bottom pot. I already registered the guitar on the page and also talked about these modifications.

Thanks for adding your guitar to our G&L Registry.
