Jake Cinninger of Umphrey's McGee playing ASAT Special

Post by tomanche »

Here's a cool video of Umphrey's McGee's Jake Cinninger playing a reggae-tinged version of "Glory," one of more their majestic pieces that I like. This from a virtual holiday show that some of the band did last weekend. I knew Jake had an ASAT Special, but I've never seen him use it. Most years, an S-500, and for the past few, a Comanche (yay!).

If you like that version, search for the version from their 2008 New Year's Eve show at the Chicago Auditorium, with a rollicking gospel choir. Combined with "Amazing Grace," it still brings tears to my eyes.

Edit: Just found another version from 2011 NYE, with the choir, and he's playing the ASAT. So there you go!

+1 for Jake's phenomenal playing. thx for the clip.
he's had that ASAT special since the '90's, pre-umph, in Ali Baba's Tahini. he also used a legacy early on.
one of the many downsides of the pandemic is not being able to hit UM shows.
