Tribute ASAT Classic - Nut replacement

Post by RideTheLightning »

Hi, I bought this guitar a couple years ago:
https://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars ... ric-guitar

I loved it as soon as I played it, it's just it had an issue with the high-E string slipping off the fretboard.
I should have used the warranty to get it replaced but figured it was only good for a year.

So I had the nut replaced at my local shop.
There's still a slight issue with the high-E string slipping off even with a higher string gauge.
::EDIT:: I should also note that the guitar now has a wider string spacing feel.

Does anyone know of a quick nut replacement and/or fix for this guitar?
I e-mailed G&L awhile ago and told them about the high-E problem but they never got back to me.

Check out this post: String alignment issues and a simple cure.

If this does not help, please post some photos of the nut, fretboard and bridge area.

I'm not really sure how to set the string alignment correctly for fear of making it worse than what it is right now as it looks pretty straight-ish. It just feels too wide. I'm not sure what the guitar tech at the local shop was going off by. Is there suppose to be a specifically fixed string spacing with this particular guitar?

The high E doesn’t look particularly close to the edge to me - if anything, the low E looks closer to being off. Either way, if you paid for a luthier to make you a nut to solve the string spacing issue and it’s not resolved, I’d take it back to see if they can fix it. Spacing is pretty personal and depends on your preferred gauge of string etc.

I'm not sure if I can still take it back though. I had it done last year.

I'm thinking of going somewhere else, this time with a nut ready.
I just don't know which one I should use.

Does G&L have a replacement part?
