Doheny V12 pickups underneath the bonnet

Post by Musicman210 »

Hi G&L crew,

I'm 3D printing some custom pickup covers for my V12 Doheny and thought I'd post some picks of what the pickups look like underneath if anyone is interested!

Looks like they use the same dual-magnet setup as F100 pickups- not a huge surprise. Still curious why two magnets are used rather than a single magnet as on a PAF; sure there’s a good reason :)

I'm no expert on pickups, the ups is that the single could split is very convincing maybe having single magnets helps? It's early days for me yet on this one but I'll feedback as I go along.

Looking forward to messing with the tonal ranges on this - pole height, pick up height, lpf, hpf, series, parallel, single coil, love it.

Here is the first attempt just to see if the measurements were accurate and there's a good fit around the pickup

Thanks Craig! I really need to develop my skills on posting to the forum!

These pics are from a friend at the University that made the mock-up for testing. I'm picking it up off him and Tuesday to check they fit nicely.

I'm thinking of pastel blue and pink as the color scheme, maybe a seafoam green - I really want to acknowledge the surf guitar heritage in the offset style.

I'm also thinking of a translucent scheme...There's a few options!
