Survey of F100 owners - When you select both pickups in split mode (split bridge + split neck,) do you have hum cancelling?
Mine does not hum-cancel in this position; I'm assuming that's the stock setup?

Re: F100 - Wiring Question (RW/RP)
I am currently out of town until Tuesday, so I don't have access to my 1981 F-100 to check.Danley wrote:Survey of F100 owners - When you select both pickups in split mode (split bridge + split neck,) do you have hum cancelling?

You might want to check out the F-100 wiring diagrams we have in the Gallery: Album: F-100 Wiring Schematics and Picture Diagrams.
Hope this helps.

Re: F100 - Wiring Question (RW/RP)
I currently have 3 vintage F-100's. All 3 have hum when both pickups are selected in a split mode. The small black switch will reverse the polarity between them, but there is still hum. So, it doesn't matter whether the pickups are in phase or out of phase with each other, there is always some hum in the split mode.

Re: F100 - Wiring Question (RW/RP)
Curious how many F-100's have the treble control bypassed when selecting the bridge pickup. This is how the instructions indicate the F-100 is supposed to work. My October 1980 F-100 behaves like this. My April 1981 and November 1983; however, have the treble tone control always active and adjustable even when the bridge pickup is selected by itself (contrary to the instructions).
It appears at some point, they made the PTB tone control always active. Does anybody know the switch occurred?
Red is 1980, Green is 1981, Blue is 1983

Danley, i do not notice hum cancelling in split mode, center pickup selector position, on my 81 F-100 series 1.
Challenger, mine has no treble roll off for the bridge pup only, both coils or split.

Interesting My January '83 has the treble knob active for both bridge and neck pickups individually/in all positions.

Re: F100 - Wiring Question (RW/RP)
Do you know what month your '81 was made? Your '81 behaves like my 1980 and like the instruction sheet indicates it should. My green 1981 was completed on April 20, 1981. It has the word repair written in the neck pocket and the neck is dated 2-1-83. So, I'm curious if it left the factory with the treble cut active in the bridge pickup or if the mod was done by the factory in 1983 when it got a neck replacement under warranty. Both of mine with the active treble in the bridge have hex screw pole pieces on the pickups, while the 1980 has slot pole.drjho7 wrote:Danley, i do not notice hum cancelling in split mode, center pickup selector position, on my 81 F-100 series 1.

My above mentioned '83 is Allen pole as well.
