2012 NOS Legacy Photos
My new NOS 2012 Legacy arrived and it's flawless. I peeled the film off the pick guard and rear cover myself. There isn't a mark on the guitar anywhere, which I find remarkable. I couldn't even find a smudge, pick mark, swirl, or any sign that it had even been touched, much less played. Even the case is is mint-like new condition.
Best $1000 bucks I ever spent. Ever. Here's the porn in Vintage White w/ Mint PG & pup's- more in my gallery

I oiled the fretboard and put a new set of Elixir Polyweb 10-46's on it.

That is a gorgeous guitar.
So pardon the FNG question, but when I restored my '70 GTO ragtop "NOS" meant "new old stock". I got an NOS set of tail light lenses in the original yellowed AC Delco boxes and they were literally 40 year old brand spanking new lenses. Unfortunately they carried a modern $300 price tag! Am I to understand that there is a source out there somewhere of NOS G&L guitars awaiting discovery?
Or does NOS mean something else in G&L world?

Re: 2012 NOS Legacy Photos
NOS in G&L is indeed the same and yes, there are plenty of NOS G&L's out there. You just need to find the owners that are willing to sell. I have a few, but am not currently selling them. I have to go back and have another look at my '97 ASAT III to see if it qualifies for NOS status cause I do have that for sale...Palmtree wrote:That is a gorgeous guitar.

Re: 2012 NOS Legacy Photos
I bought my Legacy as NOS (new old stock) about 4 1/2 years ago. It had been sitting in a store for so long that the pearl pickguard was yellow from age. It took hours to peel off the plastic as it had crystalized to the pickguard and came off in hundreds of tiny fragments. I later found out my Legacy was made in September 2004 making it 10 years old when I bought it. I am the original owner and bought it from a store that was an authorized dealer. It came with a full 10 year G&L warranty because I am the original owner.
New old stock means it was never sold and still in a dealers possession. A new old stock guitar would come with a factory warranty when purchased from a store that was authorized by G&L. It may have been handled and played in the store but was never sold. New old stock should not be confused with mint/unplayed. A guitar that was purchased from a store, never played, and tucked in a closet for years could be "like new" or mint/unplayed condition but would not be considered NOS (new old stock) because it was previously sold.
The oldest NOS G&L that I'm aware of was a 1985 Superhawk that was purchased new about 29 years later.

challenger, the blue guitars are beautiful, but
there's something about that redburst legacy with matching headstock, hard to put into words!

I also bought several NOS. And then I "Unstocked" them; some only slightly, some quite seriously by virtue of them sounding so damn good. And of course because that is what Leo would have wanted to happen to his instruments ...

I know, right? Kind of hard to believe my Legacy sat in a store for 10 years.drjho7 wrote:challenger, the blue guitars are beautiful, but

Re: 2012 NOS Legacy Photos
I find the whole NOS thing a bit of a grey area. What would you call a Broadcaster that sat in Dales collection since 1986 and was sold by his son? Still in original shipping box with all the accouterments including the paper they wrap it in inside the case and unplayed. Never sold. Or the George Fullerton owned Sabre II in similar condition and with all the goodies as well.Challenger wrote:I bought my Legacy as NOS (new old stock) about 4 1/2 years ago. Re: 2012 NOS Legacy Photos
I guess my definition of NOS is based on ownership and warranty. Would George Fullerton or Dale Hyatt be considered the first owners of the guitars? Or, were they merely in possession of a business asset or serving as the capacity of a dealer for all those years?FZTNT wrote:I find the whole NOS thing a bit of a grey area.
