Hi All,
I am new to the forum as I had just bought my first G&L guitar. It's a vintage F-100 Series II but it looks different than any I have seen online. The headstock has a different shape than the rest. I was wondering if anyone recognizes this and knows exactly the year on this. It's in mint condition with no scratches. The serial number is G015XXX if that helps. Any info on this would be great!

Re: F-100 Series II 1982?
Hi Coop, welcome to the forum. There's lots of great people on board and a ton of knowledge.
Sure, that is an early model F-100. It has the correct headstock, someone may have put locking tuners on it. It's difficult to tell for sure from the photo as it's a bit low rez. Nice looking example of one of Leo's finest though. I am a bit unsure about the serial number as it seems a bit high for an early eighties model. Is the serial number on the neck plate or the bridge?

Hi, the serial number is only listed on the neck plate.

Looks all original aside from the odd shaped black piece underneath the bridge. Yours is likely from late 1983 or early 1984. I have a November 1983 F-100 with the paddle headstock (no hook). It is in the 15XXX range on the neck plate as well. The black crinkle control plate would be consistent with 1983 or later.

the black piece underneath the bridge is the same material as the control plate, access plate on the back, and the 3 screw neck plate. Regardless the guitar plays beautifully and I got it and I believe the original case for $500. The case on the outside looks its age but the guitar does not.

Thanks for putting my photo up. I rechecked the black piece and its actually made of plastic I'll have to check to see what's underneath.

You've got a nice looking guitar with original case for an excellent price. I'm curious on the black piece under the bridge. Is it screwed down or glued down? Or, is it attached to the bridge. I've never seen a piece like that on an F-100. I've owned four vintage ones and currently have three vintage F-100's.

This guitar was likely made in 1984, see this from Greg Gagliano's G&L webpage: http://www.ggjaguar.com/84f-100.htm.Craig wrote:Here is your photo inline:coop321 wrote:Hi All,

Re: F-100 Series II 1982?
So I removed the plate and it revealed a blemish or some repair work leading underneath the bridge. The plate was nicely done and was screwed on. Not sure how you can damage that area but its there. The guitar still plays great regardless. Thanks for all the comments and help.
