I have one question:
Neck/ headstock is S-500. The pickups are not MFD and no push/ pull tone knob?

Re: Just got a 2010 S-500 tribute
Craig,
I appreciate all of your help. So, I just bought this used at guitar Center. It has a serial number
100621468
I registered it here today.
I have read up on G&L and it is a S-500. However I thought All S-500 models had MFD pickups
This one has alnico.
This is my first G&L. Like it very much. Have had many strats.
Any information you can give I appreciated.
Thank you again!

Re: Just got a 2010 S-500 tribute
I see a number of changes which were made to this Tribute S-500 (assuming that it was originally a factory built Tribute S-500):glapoint63 wrote:I have one question:

1. The pickups look to be G&L Legacy pickups (Alnico).
2. The stock control knobs (chrome domed) have been changed .
3. The stock string tree has been replaced with an aftermarket one and another one was added, too.
4. The stock nut was replaced with what looks like a brass nut.
5. The stock saddles have been replaced with some other aftermarket saddles.
6. As you mentioned, there is no push/pull tone knob, so you might want to look under the pickguard to check for changes to the other pots, pickup selector switch and wiring.
See: Album: S-500 Diagrams and Album: Legacy Diagrams for the factory wiring for the S-500 and the Legacy.
It looks like a previous owner converted the Tribute S-500 to a Tribute Legacy.
The 2010 Tribute S-500 and Tribute Legacy were available in the same color finish and pickguard.
2010 Tribute S-500
2010 Tribute Legacy
Another possibility is that this guitar originally was a Tribute Legacy and had it's neck replaced with a 2010 Tribute S-500 neck.
Hope this helps.

Re: Just got a 2010 S-500 tribute
Definitely looks like it was hot rodded. The saddles look like DFS Steel saddles that GnL offered for a short time. Overall, looks like someone attempted to "superstrat" a guitar that already was. It is also possible that someone bought a loaded Legacy pg and mounted it on the S-500.
In any case, play and enjoy it!

Re: Just got a 2010 S-500 tribute
Craig ,
You confirmed what I was thinking. I don't mind the pickups and the lack
Of the toggle switch. These sound great!
I agree with you they probably changed out the pickguard w/ legacy components.
All checks out OK treble/bass volume.....
After cleaning and a proper setup, it is back to
How it should play. Great action and nice fretboard feel. I picked this one for the maple fretboard.
They put graphtech saddles, they are fine....
Overall, for $300.00 it is better than most Fenders.
You and this website have been a huge help.
Thanks again,
George

Yes, I think that the previous owner wanted a Maple fretboard, so they found a parted out S-500 Maple fretboard neck and swapped it.glapoint63 wrote:Craig ,

So, it probably is a Tribute Legacy with an S-500 neck plus new nut, string trees and saddles.
Enjoy.
