Hi there.
I need your help please.
If you know anything, it will help.
I bought a used s500 USA #G042480 but it does not have any toggle switch.
The previous owner told me it could be made around late 80' or early 90' but the serial number #G042480 seems to be around mid 90's. (I am not so sure about this part)
It has a ptb control as well and black body with white pick guard.
I looked up everywhere I could but couldn't find the clear answer.
If you know, can you please share your info with me and everyone here?
Thank you

Re: S500 USA with no toggle switch
does it have a "push/pull" switch on one of the pots ? Since there is no toggle switch
..Mine has the separate toggle switch but some of the ones in that year could be either , the newer you go the more likely to have a push pull switch

Re: S500 USA with no toggle switch
I think the S-500's always came with the toggle switch, but it seems reasonable that someone might make a special order set up one up at the factory with a push/pull. Special orders are... well special after all.
If it was a latter day mod, the modder could have translated the original circuit to a legacy pick guard, and used (as Fumble Fingers already said, and I am merely parroting) a push/pull to replace the now missing toggle. That would be the typical way one might do that.
If (on the other hand) there is no push/pull, a couple of notions come to mind.: It may be that the guitar is actually a Legacy, with a replacement neck from an S500. I could see that. Alternately, it could be an S500 modded after-the-fact with a Legacy pick guard, and subsequent wiring - though that seems unlikely to me (why would anyone do that?)
You could contact G&L with your serial number and ask about the build information - that'd probably tell you what year it is, and whether or not the neck is original.

Re: S500 USA with no toggle switch
S-500's built from 1982-1987 did not have the mini-toggle switch. See Production List of G&L Instruments (USA) in the

Re: S500 USA with no toggle switch
You might not have the mini-toggle but also check you do no have either a push-pull volume or tone control to achieve the same. Your S500 was built well into the BBE-era, late enough that the push-pull might be the case.Lasimon wrote:Hi there.

Re: S500 USA with no toggle switch
No pull/push switch is confirmed once again.
The serial number seems like this guitar made during mid 90's but it could be 80'seen as well.
I guess someone modded along the way.
This guitar has clarity and sparkling sound as it is supposed to be known as.
Thank you everyone for help.

Re: S500 USA with no toggle switch
My bad. I was looking at the "1989 - present" wiring diagram in the gallery. I could have sworn it said "1982 - present".Craig wrote:S-500's built from 1982-1987 did not have the mini-toggle switch. See Production List of G&L Instruments (USA) in the
