bookmatched L-2500

Post by rsnell22 »

I have a Guitars By Leo L-2500, three tone sunburst/rosewood, with bookmatched top.
Purchased from a BBE employee, a few years back.

Is this a common bass, or perhaps a bit rare?

Thanks.

Pics, both here and in your ad, would be helpful.

As to rare; probably not so much. Pretty much anyone with the fundage can order a capped L-2500, and G&L is pretty damned cagey when it comes to bookmatching cap halves. If you're talking about a normal two piece body that is bookmatched, that's the luck of the draw or the eyes and influence of an employee.

Good luck with your sale.

Is the top Maple or Swamp Ash?

G&L did the L-2500 Custom model which had a bookmatched Swamp Ash top.
It had a limited production run of one year (1997).

Here's the 1997 G&L Catalog page for it, from our Gallery:

Does this looks similar to yours?

Hope this helps.

I have the custom L-2500 which is pictured in the catalogue page in this thread.
How rare is it, do you have production numbers?

Per B
the L-* Custom basses were in production for 1 year (1997). We don't have them listed in the
G&L Rarebirds section of the G&L Registry because more than 400 of each model were thought to have been made.
