CL Semi Hollow Asat Bass

Post by flipnaut »

I found a US ASAT Semi Hollow Bass used:
-Birdseye Maple
-F-hole
-colour is orange
-CL without F... so it must be 1997 right? There was only one year where they went from CL to CLF.

Could anyone tell me more? Not many basses have the birdseye or? Did they build in 1997 already tributes?

Instrument is great! Sound is super. Got it for 900 Euros. If anybody wishes i can add photos...

From the information provided, it is for sure an American built bass. Bird's Eye Maple (BEM) was an option for the neck in those days and given that they were still using a Bi-Cut neck, those necks did not have the same stability issues as current BEM necks with non-compression truss rods. The BEM neck fell under the same 10 year warranty as the rest of the instrument. Now BEM isn;t even a listed option anymore. The body is likely ash with the Premium Clear Orange finish. It indeed is good guess to date the instrument back to 1997, maybe early 1998 given the missing "F" in the S/N. The Tribute economy line of instruments only came along in 2003.

Hope tis helps,

- Jos

interesting is the body has two dots and the neck as usual one. so there are three.
are the two dots in body normal?

And the neck has 4screws to lock into the body.

Yeah i guess with the bem and cl number it is a great guitar and year. Really happy.

Yes, that is normal, see: http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewt ... 373#p75373.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Jos.

However, this may be a special build or prototype, since standard production did not start until 2001, see: Production List of G&L Instruments (USA).
We have another CLxxxxx serial number ASAT Bass Semi-Hollow in our G&L Registry.

Please do post photos of your bass (front and back photos), see: Tutorial: Posting photos.
Also, please add your bass to our G&L Registry, too.
Looking forward to seeing your bass.

Ah i do not believe it is a prototype but one of the early made and first Asat basses i guess :) When it is even younger as the production line then it is a cool thing. But sure it is a special one because it is so old and one of the first basses of these.

Here are the photos in my dropbox zipped:

The Bi-Cut neck: I guess yes it is... there is a thin line on the back of the neck. Good to know that this means even more stability and quality.

I'm sorry but I don't understand. Where did you registered? Please PM or EM me with the link to your dropbox album (not the zip file) and I would be happy to help you get your photos posted.

Thanks.

I tried to register and make an account here a few times: http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/GALLERY2/ma ... itemId=228
It did not work and i got no register email as usual and checked even spam etc.

Okay perhaps you have an issue with dropbox? Here's my Onedrive-Link direct out of my computer:

I sent you an email. Please reply back and I will manually activate your Gallery account.

Notice that I removed your Onedrive-Link because it failed 3 of the link tests. Please don't post any link without checking it first.

Thanks.

Seems the platform is extremly buggy. I always got server errors. But it seems that it took the photos in the end. No thumbs have been generated but there should be thumbs.

If i try to edit i get this:

"Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

The problem is that you uploaded files which are too large. Your files are 3264x2448 pixels each.
We only allow image files of 1024x1300 pixels.
Registered Users Gallery
This is where Registered User's Albums are located. This Gallery requires a separate registration
from the guitarsbyleo.com User Profile registration. Each Registered User will be given their own
Album to upload photos and audio files to share with all.

We do ask that you limit your photos to G&L instruments only, as we do have limited disk space.
Photos greater than 1024 pixels wide x 1300 pixels high in size will be resized.

We might use your photos in the Instruments section of the Gallery, as well.
So, please provide some information about your photos in the Description field.

Thanks for your cooperation and we look forward to viewing your photos and listening to your audio files!

If you have any problems uploading your files, let me know (craig@guitarsbyleo.com) and I will help you get them added.

[updated 6/2/2013: increased maximum photo size]
I have resized your photos and removed the oversized photos.

Here are two of them:
