G&L now offers two types of optional Ebony fretboards

Post by Craig »

I recently found out that G&L now offers Black Ebony and Caramel Ebony as fretboard options.

I asked Spencer about this and if the Ebony they use is stained. Here is his reply:
Hi Craig,

On the Ebony: We have added Caramel Ebony as an option as we were able to get some. We don’t stain any of our ebony.
There is no tone difference between the two. It’s the same species, just normally they select only the black stuff. We got some
interesting pieces with the caramel striping that look cool so we decided to offer it up while we’ve got it.
I’ll see if we’ve got a photo of it, or I’ll snap one and send it over.

Thanks,

Spencer
Hi Craig,

Here is a shot of some unfinished Caramel Ebony. Once it is finish sanded and oiled it will darken.
I’ll try to snap a shot of a finished board once I see it.

Thanks,

Spencer
