Supposed to deliver my new ASAT Special on Saturday.
Bought it brand new via Reverb. Transaction was quick and easy.
Saw it needed a signature to receive it, so I stayed home on Saturday.
I'm doing some house work, etc...and I walk downstairs. The wife (who is sitting at the table in the dining room which
attaches to the living room) says, "I think your guitar is here."
"Did you hear the doorbell?"
"No, but somebody was fiddling with the door and I didn't want to answer it."
I go and check, and FEDEX left the sticker with "nobody home" message on it....less than ONE MINUTE before I see it. The time stamp
is one minute away from the current time! No truck in sight.
To make matters worse, they say they can't deliver until Tuesday and not Monday because it was shipped Fedex Ground.
I call and complain, and they can't get ahold of the driver because he's a contracted driver. Whatever....
I then try and reroute the drop to a local FedEx office location less than 1 mile from my house....online status TODAY still shows as unavailable.
So now I"m waiting until tomorrow to pick it up...I think the alternate drop off is a great chioce becauase I can't sit at home all day tomorrow as
I have to go into the office for work. I should get it regardless tomorrow.
All this time without has made me second guess this purchase, though. I've read a lot about the necks on these specials being really thin....something i do NOT like. I've come to love the color, but the neck question has me worried. It's the modern classic 9.5" radius....so who knows.
I was oriignally going to go with a Bob Logan custom telecaster made at www.logancustomguitars.com but went this route. Hopefully I'm just overreacting.
Ugh...

Re: stinking FedEx
I hate it when they do that. The same thing happened to me about 6 months ago, never rang the bell. I made them put me on the phone with the manager at the local depot and they brought it to me that night.
The modern classic neck is 0.820” at 1st fret and 0.870” at the 12th fret.
It is not what I would call super thin neck but it is by no means thick either.

Re: stinking FedEx
Just got it at the local office.
Not sure what to think.
Case is GREAT.
Neck is way too thin for my liking, and the color does NOT look like it did in the pics...more of a black color with a touch of purple
than the red sparkle shown in pictures. Fault of hte seller more than anything there.
Haven't had a chance to set it up and play it yet. It's well put together but the Tribute I had appears to be built just as well, so not sure
if it's worht the extra $$$ yet.

I've got 4 USA models and 1 Tribute and can't really tell the difference in build quality. I think what you're paying for is the custom-shop nature of the USA models. Aside from Carvin, I can't think of another guitar builder that makes that exact guitar you want (within the limits of the available options) as G&L for less than $2500. The fact that the guitars sound as good as Suhr, PRS, et. al. (at least from the YT demos) is a definite plus as well.

Re: stinking FedEx
Up until recently, the Tribute models had the same components as the USA equivalents. I don't think that's true now. I've read (on this site?) that the Tributes no longer have the same pickups as the USA models and that the pickups for the Tributes are now made in Indonesia by Cort to G&L's specs.

Told you you'd be disappointed if you didn't wait for the right one. Hope you spend a bit of time and get to like it.

Re: stinking FedEx
I played it quite a bit last night.
Thing really is amazing.
The neck isn't a big issue, really. I do find it's easier to play than the thicker ones I'm used to. I find thicker to be more comfy, but
this one I can move around the fretboard much quicker.
I will post a NGD thread with pix soon. Not disappointed iwth this at all after playing itn nfor a few hours.

You did not likely read that here. Here is what I have posted in the past and it still holds true:
Reference post: http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewt ... 108#p93108Craig wrote:The Tribute instruments that use MFD pickups are the same USA pickups made in Fullerton, CA.
The single coil Alnico pickups in the Tribute Legacy are also the same pickups used in the USA Legacy and
are made at the Fullerton factory. The humbuckers and P-90's are made to G&L's specifications at the Cort facility in Indonesia.
Also, see these posts: What is the new Tribute series which G&L announced in 2003?,
Why the change in manufacturing location for the Tributes?, List of pickups used in G&L guitars.
July 1, 2015-present Tribute Series Production Models...
Hope this helps.
