They are noise cancelling by design, see: Are z-coils MFD?Horax wrote:Are these simply MFD's set to be noise cancelling?

Re: asat z3 pickup question
The z-coils are noise-canceling, but they are not noiseless versions of other MFD pickups. In other words, they sound very different from other MFD pickups. I have a Comanche with Z-Coils and an SC-2 with jumbo MFDs. They are very different. If i had to go with one, I'd go with the jumbo MFDs on my SC-2 over the z-coils. The neck pup sounds awesome clean and dirty. However, I tend to use a noise gate of varying intensity when recording with the SC-2 because they will hum - especially when you add distortion. A z-coil pickup can handle plenty of dirt and remain quiet.

Re: asat z3 pickup question
I just recently acquired a Z3 semi-hollow. When I compare to my ASAT jumbo MFDs I would say there is a bit more mid-range in the Z3s and a little less power. However they do have still a crystal clear sound as well as no hum and sound really great through the pedal board.

Owning a G&L guitar is like having an amazing vintage instrument, but it's brand new...
