Humbucker on ASAT SPECIAL

Post by sylar0123456 »

Hey guys. I have an asat special and i would like to throw a humbucker on the bridge. Specifically a wide range humbucker. Is this possible?
Do i need to make a bigger hole on the body? Or with a new pickguard it would be enough. And how would a humbucker with alnicos match with the mfd neck pickup. THANK YOU GUYS

The ASAT Special pickups are individually routed, so depending on what the size of the humbucker you wish to use, will determine how much you would need to route out. Also, if you use a full size
humbucker, you likely will want it to be parallel with the bridge, not angled like the MFD Jumbo bridge pickup is. And yes you would need a custom made pickguard, too.
If you can find an Alnico humbucker pickup which would fit into the MFD Jumbo bridge route then you might be able to just replace the bridge pickup and use the existing pickguard. But read on:

As far as the Alnico humbucker matching with the MFD Jumbo neck pickup, I would say that you will likely need to modify the MFD ground plate connection. This is similar to what is done
on the ASAT Classic Bluesboy, which has a neck humbucker with a bridge MFD single coil with the modified ground plate connection. See this in our Gallery: Album: ASAT Classic Bluesboy Picture Diagrams.

Hope this helps.

I did misspell the word "rout'. "Rout out" means that you will need to make the pickup cavity larger to fit a standard size humbucker.

Sorry for the confusion.
