Kiloton bass issue

Post by guitar_ed »

Hi All,

My preferred strings for bass are the Rotosound Jazz strings. But on my Kiloton, the low E string has a different sound from the other 3. More low tones, less higher frequency overtones.

My other basses, including my G&Ls do not have this problem. Any thoughts? Any strings that might not exhibit this problem?

Well..

I tried another set of the Rotosounds in case I had a bad string. Same response on the low E.

So today, I went and got a set of D'Addario brights, same sizes as the Rotosounds, and the low E does not sound different from the others, it does not sound thumpy. It sounds like a matched set should.

One thing I realized: My 2 other G&L basses with Rotosounds are Ash, this Kiloton is Alder. That could make the difference.

Interesting, I'll remember this if I come across a low heavy RotoSound set.
Glad to hear your K bass is sounding like it should :D
