Comanche Upgrade Capabilities??

Post by SouthSideAlex »

Hey I have a G&L Comanche and am curious if it is possible/sensible to upgrade the electronics to the pick-ups configuration of the Comanche Studio VI?

Also, are there ACTIVE pick-ups available? And wondering what G&L has done integrating MIDI capabilities into the guitars... also, possibilities of adding these effects on-board the guitar...

This is second post to forum so let me know hopefully this gets to the right place...

Also... G&L make 7-string 8-string guitars?

Thanks!

Anything is possible, Alex. There should be enough room under the pickguard, but I'd check first and buy a separate pickguard to carry out the mods.

I don't recall midi ever used on a G&L, but there may be one somewhere. Is midi even used still?

Never seen a G&L 7, let alone an 8 string. Probably not the market theyd go after either, I'd wager.

G&L did design and built atleast one midi guitar (prototype) in 1984. See: Skyhawk Roland Synth and Roland Synth prototype Skyhawk.

Also, one of our members here (darwinohm) added a Roland GR20 Synth to a Legacy, see: Legacy-- Roland GR 20 Synth.

I use the Fishman Tripleplay pick up system with an SC2 and a Fallout but it wouldn't fit between the Z coils and the bridge on a will Ray Z3 asat. Seems to work and fit slightly better with the saddle lock bridge on the fallout than the vibrato bridge on the SC2 but is effective either way.

cheers

My personal view is that most any upgrade on a Comanche would qualify as a downgrade, or lateral grade at best. Do wish mine was a tad lighter as I am geezer who packs it about 20 min to play. Whine whine
