Hi all,
I just purchased a used Legacy and I have several questions about it. To be honest, I'm doubting its authenticity a little bit but I'm hoping the experts on this site can confirm one way or another.
First of all, here is an album of photos of the instrument:

Some things that aren't sitting right with me:
-no evidence of a date stamp on the neck heel
-LSR roller nut
-missing rosewood dot at tuners?
-string tree looks wrong, screw doesn't quite fit
-neck fits into pocket extremely snugly
-bridge saddles have long narrow openings instead of shorter wide openings
-jack plate seems second rate, it's slightly dimpled at the screws
-each pot appears to be different
-strap buttons don't seem right
-single-ply, non-matching black back plate
What seems right:
-neck has rosewood dot (but just one, I think)
-ummm, the guy I bought it from seems honest??
I realize that some of these things could have been changed by a previous owner. Also, the guitar is in dire need of a set up so this is also contributing to my feeling that something isn't quite right.
Any insight is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Fred

Re: Need help IDing my Legacy
Hi Fred,
It looks legit to me, as a USA made Legacy. There is a date on the neck heel of 5/13.
Has it been modified? I think so, yes.
Beyond that?? I don't know.
Take care,
edg

Thank you, Ed. I appreciate this. Is there supposed to be another rosewood dot on the headstock? I've only removed two tuners, where I think the other dot should be, and it isn't there.

My understanding is that second dot went away when they started using CNC machines, around 2003.

Re: Need help IDing my Legacy
Thanks, all, I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my questions. With your posts and some other research I've done, I'm convinced that this guitar is authentic. My fears stemmed from my lack of experience with G&L instruments. I now know that the guitar was modified by a previous owner - the LSR roller nut was added and the pickup covers were changed. Pretty simple stuff. I also now have the backstory of the whereabouts of the OHSC, COA, original pickup covers and bridge pickup and it's all legit.
I'm a little confused about the date stamp on the neck pocket - I think it says 2008 but it's tough to tell - and the possible handwritten date on the neck heel 5/13.
Thanks again,
Fred

Re: Need help IDing my Legacy
I asked someone at G&L last year about the birthmark and he said it's not needed at all anymore. They still put it there to pay homage to past practices and appease the guitar Gods. Very cool.Craig wrote:fredpantalone wrote:Thank you, Ed. I appreciate this. Is there supposed to be another rosewood dot on the headstock?
