I run my Legacy Alnico in parallel and series in varying combos. I'd like to put some z coils in there. What are the dimensions of z coils? Will they fit in a swimming pool rout? Basically making a Commanche.
Thanks!

Thanks! I don't know the answer yet, but I can figure it out with that data.

I don't know for certain, but I'd be surprised if G&L rout the two pools differently. Highly likely the pups will go in OK.
Two point I'd offer for my 2c:
Check a Comanche schematic, which I'm sure can be found either here or at G&L; there may be a small capacitor (.002?) across the whole signal path, whose purpose is to lower the resonant frequency of the pups. This is optional: omitting it will be noticeably brighter. If you use your tone control, you may like this. If you tend to run at 10, perhaps less so.
The Will Ray back pup is a great option; stops your Comanche / Z3 from suffering from what's always been not-quite-right about every Strat. Lovely back pup with serious nuts. Does bright, does meaty, does all good things. Should be stock (and G&L should seriously consider this, it's one of the very best back pups ever).

See this post in our G&L Knowledgebase forum, General G&L Questions sub-forum: Which G&L guitar models have the body with a bathtub route?.NickHorne wrote:I don't know for certain, but I'd be surprised if G&L rout the two pools differently. Highly likely the pups will go in OK.

For wiring information on the Comanche, see our Gallery, Album: Instrument Manuals and Wiring Schematics: Album: Comanche Wiring Diagram and Picture Diagram.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses.
I'll take the advice. I love the Legacy and have found it will do a lot more with the pickup options I have and have struggled with all with other guitars basically because they cannot compete for tone and stability. The Legacy is superb.

You might consider adding a Comanche (USA or Tribute) to compliment your Legacy.Cbodie73 wrote:Thanks for the responses.

Re: Z Coils Fit in '93 Swimming Pool Rout Legacy?
Yeah. I hit an article that really struck home on my guitar search.
http://tonereport.com/blogs/tone-tips/w ... u/page/two
I've tried 'Em all and a jazzmater tone with dual fulcrum is what I seem to seek to seek for surf bass thump that compliments a reverb unit outboard and clean sound. I got the rig for it but ultimately it's a good guitar and pickups to match. After so many years, I know it's not ear hurting treble that makes a good surf tone for me or my audience, but controlled playing. With that in mind, my best setup might be dual fulcrum with ASAT special pickups on bigger body than a SC 2.
So I defer to Z coils or big MFD's. Z's I presume are superior.

They aren't really the same at all (soundwise), I'd rather have a large MFD if I only had one pickup on a desertedCbodie73 wrote: Z's I presume are superior.
island. Z-coils in series have less sparkle than a large MFD, and less body in my experience.
Z's in parallel are nice and present, but could need a boost. The large MFD is nice and balanced with little or no EQ.
hope that helps, ...just my off the cuff impressions.
