Differences between USA models

Post by kdl6769 »

Would anyone care to comment on the difference in sound between (1) an ASAT Classic, (2) a semi-hollow ASAT Classic, and (3) an ASAT Classic Bluesboy with a neck humbucker? I'm pretty interested in picking up a G&L, but do not live anywhere near a dealer. I'm especially interested in how the semi-hollow body changes the sonic signature of the standard ASAT classic. Many thanks.

See this post in our G&L Knowledgebase: Where can I hear and see samples of G&L instruments?.

Hope this helps.

Craig, if I were to put a G&L P90 on an ASAT Classic to replace the neck pickup, would that effectively make the guitar the same as a Bluesboy 90? In other words,is the only difference between an ASAT Classic and a Bluesboy 90 the neck pickup?

No, you need the modified MFD bridge pickup (or modify the original MFD pickup). See this post: Converting an ASAT Classic to Bluesboy.
This post applies to changing the MFD neck pickup to either a Seth Lover Humbucker or G&L Alnico humbucker or the G&L P-90 pickup.
In general, if you replace the MFD neck pickup with an Alnico pickup, you need the modded MFD bridge pickup.

And, of course, you will need to route the neck pickup cavity to fit the P-90 (or humbucker).

Hope this helps.
