ASAT Classic pawn shop find

Post by RichieB555 »

Hello! New to the forum. Bought my first G&L today at a pawn shop - an ASAT Classic. Plays great! Serial number on back of headstock starts with 05 and is 8 digits total. Can anyone clarify if it is USA made, or what country of manufacture? Blue burst with rosewood board. I'll try to attach or link to photos.

In our G&L Knowledgebase, you will find this post: Serial number significance.

Yes, please do post a photo of your Tribute Series ASAT Classic. It does not exist without photos. ;)
For info on posting photos, see: Tutorial: Posting photos.

Looking forward to seeing your guiitar and don't forget to add it to our G&L Registry, too.

They work, at least for me.

It would appear to be a USA model. Dp you have any pix of the back? Is it a 3 bolt by any chance?

As Craig said, it is a Tribute Series so it is an import model. The s/n is wrong format for USA and the ASAT Classic font on the headstock is not USA type. It is a 2005 model. Probably Indonesia.

Nice looking ASAT. I really enjoy my Tribute Series ASAT Special Deluxe. Congratulations.

Here are the photos inline:

Since you mention that the serial number is eight digits long, then the country of origin would be Korea.
Also, I notice that the headstock decals have been doctored, with the "Tribute Series" decal having been removed.
It was located below the G&L logo. It would be interesting to see what the back of the headstock looks like, where the serial number is located.
We have seen several Tribute Series instruments which have been doctored, see this post in our G&L Knowledgebase, General G&L Questions sub-forum: Buyer Beware: Doctored Tribute Series models ....
One other detail about the Tribute Series ASAT Classic, is that the neck pickup is located closer to the neck then on the USA model, see: asat classic pickguard.

Hope this helps.

The Korean made Tributes are awesome guitars. Tributes really have no equal in the import wars.
