Since I was unable to secure the Comm Lacewood recently sold on Ebay I lined up a consolation prize of some interest. It's another 2004 ASAT Spacial Build HB of which only 35 were made. There are some interesting things I noticed when comparing these two guitars side by side and wanted to get some thoughts and professional opinions about what I have found. The two guitars are basically the same but have some differences that raise interest. I did speak with G&L and confirmed that the second one is completely legit so no worries, just food for thought as well as perhaps documentation and if any of you have one of these HBs what do you find on yours that may even raise additional interest.
First some basic pics:
Here's the new HB, in virtually unplayed condition. There is dust on some of the pics that really looks bad but I assure you, it's just dust in the flash.
The two together
Now here is the Headstock of the new HB That does not have "Guitars by Leo" on the decal.........And it's there on the first one.
On the new HB the serial Number decal is black and thousands of numbers away from the first HB which has the expected white decal.
Now here is another odd thing that I have not seen on any of my other ASAT's. Look closely and you will see a small circle to the left of the neck plate that looks like the ones you see on almost every headstock of every G&L guitar. It's a dowel that has been cut off and finished with the rest of the body. Does anyone know what this is for? Even the ones on the back of the headstocks, What are they for? Perhaps those of you that have worked for G&L in the past could shed some light on this.
Heres the new one.........................................................................................................................................And here's the old one.
One more thing for now. The case that came with this new guitar was stated as the original Tolex case but it's brown. Is this something they did in 2004 or any year for that matter?
So as usual, I continue to be amazed at the different variations with these incredible guitars and would like to open up a discussion about what I have found. What do you all think? Great history lesson to be sure.
Thanks for the input and I remain most grateful for all your knowledge, excitement and inside.
