Wiring for USA Asat which one?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

I've also seen people say the tone cap is .047

Did this change over time? What are you guys using?

Hi Andor,

You bring up something interesting.
This schematic is commensurate with my BBE-era ASAT(s): .100μF±10% (2A104K) cap on the tone control, 200pF±10% (201) ceramic disc cap on the volume. You'll notice that there is also a resistor on the tone control in the schematic without the value drawn in. This is the 6.8kΩ resistor that distinguishes the pre-BBE ASAT from the ASAT Classic (even though the very first Classics have that resistor too).
This schematic jibes with my pre-BBE ASAT Classics with a .022μF±10% (2A223K) cap on the tone control, no resistor, and 200pF±10% (201) ceramic disc cap on the volume.

Yes, it did. My 1995 ASAT Custom no longer has the 6.8kΩ resistor on the tone control and the cap has been replaced with a .047μF (473J100V) capacitor.

So it is a story of 2 different models, ASAT vs. ASAT Classic, for the schematics you quote, and a difference between pre-BBE and post-BBE values when talking about the pre-BBE ASAT vs post-BBE ASAT/ASAT Special/ASAT Custom

Hope this helps,

- Jos

Addendum: I received Will Ray's very first ASAT today which is made up of a 1989 body with 1990 neck. The tone pot has a .022μF±10% (2A223K) cap, no 6.8kΩ resistor, and the volume has the 200pF±10% (201) ceramic disc cap. This would be the pre-BBE ASAT Classic circuit. I thought that the ASAT only received the ASAT Classic electronics after BBE took over. Unless this guitar was assembled in 1992 as some scribble on the back of its headstock seems to indicate. Then it would all make sense again.

My Asat Classic that I recently acquired of unknown age has the .022 cap, no resistor, and the 200pf cap. Do you have any preference on the different wiring schemes? The pots and switch are worn and I'm going to be replacing everything
