There's More than Corn in Indiana ;o)
Hey all , I'm a fairly new member to the forum and had not yet posted any Sears photos of the family, so I thought I would let y'all meet somma my 'kin. Enjoy!!
This is the one that started me down this road (aka Sweet Girl) 2014 G&L USA Legacy HB in Honey-burst over a delectable slice of Swamp Ash ----our sound guy (Grover Coble) likes to name all my git fiddles
Next, this little angel came to visit for a bit (aka The Reverend)... I had her for a bit and just recently passed er on to other capable hands... Note the after-market Schaller locking tuners In Black chrome ( I wish the kids at G&L would utilize more black hardware, but then again, I love the 80's!!)
Couldn't pass this one up when I saw him... Too good of a deal for a brand spankin' new worka art... was skepitical of the maple fret-board at first, but unless you have the hearing of a German Shepard, there is really no tone difference between maple and rosewood... Just me lil' ol opinion Ok, lol, this kid is ---->> 2015 G&L USA Legacy dressed in Silver Metallic over a solid sliver of Alder (aka Every Cloud...)
When I saw this doll was about the time I said, "Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus... Lord, I may have an addiction I can't control." Well anyway, she was available and my home had not yet looked like an episode of "Hoarders", and I did have heat and air conditioning, so she said yes... -----> 2015 G&L USA S-500 gleaming in Cherry-Burst over a detailed splinter of Alder with a Rosewood handle... wait for it, wait for it... =====> Hello daddy, Hello mom...Ch Ch Ch Ch Ch Ch Ch Ch Cherry Bomb!!! (aka Cherry Picker)
So at this point in time, I knew there was no going back to who I once was... I saw this lil' bebopper... He wasn't new off the creator's table, but this one came with 0 dents, dings, scrapes, scratches, derps, etc... Little to no real play time on this guy for a fire-sale price... Hard to say no when yer too busy saying Yeah!!! The detail and class that G&L puts into guits like this one, (not that i don't love em' all), is what distinguishes them from all others<> 2014 G&L USA ASAT "Special" classed out in travel back in time Belair Green sprinkled over a solid twig of Alder; further defined by rear contour, White top body binding, and white neck binding... Additional luxury options on this classic sedan include a Rosewood steering wheel for comfort, and chrome Schaller locking tuners for a more stable suspension... *Seat belts optional* (aka Bebop a Smokin' Hot)
Alright, Alright, Alright!!! Now we're gonna take a trip back to the future... or past... or uhhh
This is most likely a question that has plagued all G&L lovers near and far, but here it is... With the understanding that the electric guitar/bass market is competitive and requires manufacturers to adjust product designs in order to remain competitive and the acknowledged understanding that BBE now owns G&L and the masterminds (Leo, George, Dale) have moved on to bigger and better things... Why did G&L scrap some of the most awesome guitar concepts/designs such as the SC-3 for example in exchange for dozens of different styles of ASATs "exageration intended" (not that I despise the ASATs... just an example, please don't hit me ). The designs and color schemes were so simple, yet yielded such awesome tone machines. LoL!! volume knob, Tone knob, awesome pickups, solid and hand detailed from front to back. I have had botique guitars in the $3k range that did'nt hold a candle to what the founders were doing in the 80's... Biased a bit? Maybe...
So, moving on... I, ladies and gentlemen, am one a dem guys that exerienced the latter reign before the former reign. I think it makes it so much easier to appreciate and realize just how much greatness went into the Leo generation and provides such clarity on the value and quality on those instruments when you go new then old... Once again, this is not law, just my view from here
This was my first enlightened experience and definitely a profound acknowledgement of my new-found love, umhum, I mean addiction, I mean love of these little known treasures =====> 1986 G&L USA SC-3 dressed to pillage in Viking Blue armor with an ebony handled double-edge sword and after market tremolo bar, generously and true to original, crafted with care and pride by ESI (*footnote*- I needed a replacement case, so i drove up to Sweetwater in Ft. Wayne and had to get a baritone size case due to the 39.75-40 inch length of these babies...lol everything was huge in the 80s!! love the head stocks!!. Gator hardshell baritone with black plush interior, not tailor made for it, but fits really awesome with plenty of head room and perfect neck support***
1983 SC-2 refinished in a semipro garage job seafoam green (cant see it from the platform and doesn't change the fact that this guy rox)... Originally black, all is original except for a new jack and dat paint... Oh yeah, I accidentally discovered a simple way to remove the patina from metal/chrome while detailing this one which isn't displayed in these pics... Ready? Microfiber cloth+cream of carnauba+elbow grease = shinies!! I would love to restore it back to black. If any readers know a bomb droppin painter/refinisher who knows how it needs to be done, please pm me or shoot me an email @ memphisblue.2001@yahoo.com.. I can also be reached @ 765.461.7015.... I would really appreciate it
Lastly, for now , 1987 (ser # stamped) 1988 neck and body stamped (That's why I love these guitars and guys, all attention put into the quality and no emphasis on the lesser important aspects of how it gets done) S-500 in clear blue (photo quality does not do the finish justice) nicely complimenting a select hunk of ash from the swamp with matching head stock and Sperzel locking tuners (all original except for after market G&L mfg tremolo bar)... as affore mentioned, love the black accents that the hardware, pick guards etc provide on these guitars... only G&L
THANKS every1!! hope you enjoyed getting to know my relatives... I will add pics of future foster kids when they arrive!! And remember, having these awesome guitars and knowing what they are is almost like being part of a secret society...LoL, so don't tell yer friends and more to go around for us!!! God bless all and I would have nothing without Christ Jesus!! - Adam (James 2 some of ya)

You have some really nice G&L's there. Although I am partial to Leo era guitars, that ASAT special with the bound neck is a beauty (same with that S-500 ). Thank you for sharing. Praise the guitar !

Wow, what a stunning and beautiful collection!
Been awake less than an hour and already started coveting - good thing for forgiveness.
I know what you mean by addicting. My first G&L was a Tribute Series ASAT Special Deluxe. Told myself and my wife that I wanted one HB and one SC guitar. I already had the HB , a Washburn Idol. Well that ASAT has led to a LE-2, ASAT Classic S, Tribute JB-2, and most recently an 85 SC-3. Would love to add an F-100, SC-2, and an ASAT Z-3 to capture all the MFD PUs variations. I really like fullness and clarity of the MFDs.
I wish they'd bring back the original S-500 body style. I think it is awesome and would further differentiate it from the legacy. I'd also love to see the return of the SC-3. Those original SC models were so cool. I think G&L has done a nice job with the SC-2 reissue, the ones in the shop I go to are sweet.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful kin.
Cheers. Dan

Thank you, sir. what's awesome is, with G&L guitars, pre and post Leo are like two entirely different guitar manufactures, but all the love in one. That ASAT was really a "had to be there at the right time" score. The entirety of the bid time on that one, no one ever bid on it except for me with only seconds left. I got it at startup price... Yay!!glvourot wrote:You have some really nice G&L's there. Although I am partial to Leo era guitars, that ASAT special with the bound neck is a beauty (same with that S-500 ). Thank you for sharing.

Thanks soo much, John. I appreciate it. Yeah, that SC-2 is hard to put down. What I find interesting about it, amongst many things, is that the tone pot really doesn't differentiate too much between "wide-open" and "fully closed". I like the sea foam-green color on it. It doesn't look too bad. I would love to see her back in the black dress she had on when she came out of the shop though. Blessings to you and yours!! - Adamdrjho7 wrote:wow, beautiful collection of past and present G&L's, John 4-16!

Thank you, Dan!! I f I remember correctly, you scored the SC-3 from GC over in Illinois around Thanksgiving time. Beautifully dressed in sunburst. The reason that one is so clear to me is, had you not been there when you were, I was gonna rescue him the next day , but it sounds like he is right where he belongs. The simplicity of those, with the coolest vibe ever and just monster tone and playability, is really what its all about for me... For the most part, less is more for me. I like simplicity. I think, in my opinion only, you can get to a point with anything, (guitars and amps included) where you have to spend so much of your time dilly-dallying around with knobs, switches, buttons, etc...; where the focus and enjoyment of it all are snatched out of the equation.WitSok wrote:Wow, what a stunning and beautiful collection!

I'm totally all in with your view on the ol' school S-500s. The smaller body style is so fitting. When you have one of those slung around your shoulder, it just melts into you. It is a guitar that does not get in the way of the player. The knob and control positioning on those are placed so you don't even have to look to find em while in action. Leo was also a genius in ergonomics!! And once again, I can't stress enough about the black aluminum pick guards on those and others, plus: lest we not forget the lock tight saddle bridges. Awesome.
Ive been on the lookout for a boss-condition F-100 as well. Never have had the privilege to have one in my hands, but I would imagine I would have at least a minute or two of fun with all the tonal options available on those. Meanwhile, the search continues .
Thanks for your feedback Dan, and God bless you and yours!!

Hey,
They are all nice with the last three being my favorites. What type of an amp are you using these days with that batch of guitars?
Thanks for the great pictures,

Hey teefus, I'll have to do some research on the type of metal used on the saddles... Knowing G&L's tendency to color outside of the lines from time to time, they could have been something that was lying around the shop, so they decided to utilize it... Or even possibly, recycled aluminum cans from their employee recycling bin. Maybe one of the seasoned knowledge gurus here on the forum can shed some enlightenment on the subject. I'll also look into it. God bless!! -Adamteefus wrote:awesome guitars! what saddles are on sweet girl? they look like titanium.

It looks like your 2014 Legacy HB has a DFS Vibrato bridge. There should be a Custom Build Specifications Certificate in the case. It will say which bridge type it has,John 4-16 wrote:Hey teefus, I'll have to do some research on the type of metal used on the saddles... It is a beauty, along with the rest of your G&L's.
