From G&L Prototype list on the main G&L website:
Serial Number: CLF57852
Date Completed: April 23, 2010
Description: Powder Blue over alder, 3-ply black guard, jumbo MFD single coils with black pole pieces, black knurled knobs, maple neck with Light Tint Gloss finish.
Purpose: Dave McLaren recalls, "In 2004, the Custom Creations team launched the ASAT Super as a Special Build model. We hadn't done much with the model for a few years but we decided to explore another way to dress up an ASAT Super. In our usual way, ideas fly, someone jots them down, then we go out in the shop and build something. We happened to have a sample of Fender Powder Blue and decided to spray it over an ASAT Super body made from alder. Someone thought black pole pieces might look cool, so we sent some out to be done in black. We were also tinkering with neck finishes, and this guitar has a blend that we called Light Tint Glossy on the work order, though it's darker than what we eventually introduced as Light Tint Gloss. Frankly, it's more like our Vintage Tint Gloss offered at the time this is written in February 2015. As is often the case with prototypes, the work order information is somewhat different that the instrument being built. However, this one is as far out as any, described as an ASAT Super Blackburst Ebony Mahogany."
It was one of the prototypes that were not picked up by any of the G&L dealers, so I asked Dave if it was still at the factory. It was and is now mine.
This photo is a better representation of the Powder Blue color, since the photo on the prototype page is somewhat washed out.
Here it is with my ASAT Junior II, ASAT Junior, Custom ASAT Semi-Hollow all Mahogany with gold hardware:
This is now my current favorite ASAT. The bridge pickup is more overwound then the Custom Creations ASAT Super's bridge pickup.
The DC-R on this prototype is Neck-5.75K, Bridge-10.01K. The Custom Creations ASAT Super Special Builds pickups are: 5.4K-5.7K.
