Can Fender Telecaster control plate fit into ASAT?

Post by johnnyqb »

I am toying with the idea of putting an S-1 switching system and SCN pups from an American Deluxe Telecaster into my ASAT Classic. Is this even possible; that is, would it fit?

I asked the same question a few months back, but don't remember the response. That's because I ended up getting an NOS replacement, in black crinkle, from Wayne at Tone-guard. So, if the Fender control plate doesn't line up, it's an easy transfer of the actual controls to the G&L plate. I knew that odds of my finding an ASAT III control setup were infinitesimal, therefore I opted for controls from a Fender Nashville, which are easy to locate. It really did something positive for the sound of this guitar, for whatever reason. The guitar was put together from factory parts so I never heard it with G&L controls. However, the guitar does sound more lively than my other, 100% factory, ASAT III. Moral: Those who are fortunate enough to have an ASAT III, might want to try a Nashville control setup in it.
