The Modern U

Post by pjr114 »

I've searched (possibly not correctly) but haven't found any opinions on G&L's Modern U Neck. Has anyone tried one? From images the Modern U looks chunky at the first fret compared with a Classic C but according to the G&L options page it's actually narrower up the neck at the 12th fret, .91 to .96. I suppose the feel is more in the actual shape than the measurements. Anyways, would be interested in the views of those who have compared the two or at least have played a Modern U. No dealers in this area (!).

You might also search for postings on the #1c neck, since the Modern U neck is based upon that neck. The new neck options have only been out since July 1, 2015 and with
the annual maintenance two week shutdown in August, there have not yet been many of the new necks built yet.

Searched around again on #1c neck, still found precious little other than an opinion from another looking at one and the information on the Upfront guitars page, stating it was very similar to a Classic C #1. The U is apparently thinner in width than the #1 except for being slightly wider at the first fret but I wonder how much of a shoulder it has compared with older U necks. It has to be somewhat bigger than the #1 but how much? I have medium plus hands big enough to get around just about anything. I have various profiles among my six electrics and I seem to adapt to each with no problem and like the differences. But I've never played a U neck I can remember. Would love to or at least get an in-depth opinion on them. Thanks.
