slim 1a neck vs #1?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

slim 1a neck vs #1?

Post by charleyrich »

How different is the slim 1a neck from the #1? Do those who have used it find it vastly different in feel from the #1? Unfortunately, there aren't any G&L dealers near me with it in stock.

Thanks,

Charley

They do feel very different. The slim C feels a lot slimmer, but is still a comfortable neck.

I have both. As the measurements would indicate, the difference down at the 1st fret are not that great. However, the feel becomes more different as you move up the neck. I could be happy with either. Sometimes I think I wouldn't notice as much if there were not endless chats over neck size; I seem to remember not being as affected by differences before they invented the internet. However, now that I pay attention I really like the #1 neck a lot.

I have the ASAT Classic 3 from 1998 whose neck is very different from the #1 as it has a radius of 7.5. I am not sure what the dimensions of the neck are. But I find it easy to switch between this and my G&L ASAT Deluxe with the #1 neck. I wasn't sure if I would find it the same going to the #1a neck. There a number of interesting used G&L's on eBay that all seem to have #1a necks. I didn't want to make the purchase and then regret it due to the neck.
