Disappointing G&L product & Prymaxe- fixed by G&L

Post by bscur »

I recently bought a Legacy Tribute for my son as a first electric after being a longtime G&L fan myself. The guitar was bought through Prymaxe and came "factory direct". It arrived with an orange/cream pickguard, p/u covers and knobs and the spring cover on the back was bright white. The photos on the website showed white parts all around, but when I called Prymaxe I was told basically "tough luck" those are stock photos and I didn't actually buy the guitar shown on the website so "you are stuck with whatever shows up." They refused to pay for the shipping to return it. Unbelievable. I've owned at least 20 USA G&L's over the years and one other Tribute. Is it standard to put two colors of plastic on the guitars these days? I'll never buy from Prymaxe again and certainly will only buy a G&L if I can be assured that the pic I'm looking at is a true representation of the guitar.

Side note- I don't want his first guitar to look like it was sloppily thrown together with spare parts. Can anyone suggest where to buy a pickguard, p/u covers and knob to match what I was led to believe I was buying?
Thanks,
Brad

UPDATE- I plugged it in and the bottom tone knob pot (bass) is broken. It is all the way off as you adjust it until you get to 10 and push a bit. There it crackles and engages to full bass. Otherwise it has no effect.

The fit and finish are also poor on the neck. Many places are scratchy and not smooth. They show a little darker there as well, mostly at corners. I'm really shocked that G&L put something like this out there. I am a HUGE fan of theirs and I've owned so many beautiful G&L's. The Tribute that was delivered to me seems more like a Cort than a G&L.

You can order pickguards and back plates direct from pickguard heaven:

http://pickguards.us/pricegandl.html

I believe this is who makes the pickguards for G&L, so you will get the actual part. not a knockoff.

Pickup covers can be purchased through the G&L store.

Sorry to hear about your problems with the guitar. If it were me, I would send back the guitar anyway (and eat the shipping). To replace the pickguard, knobs and tone pot, you will spend more than it costs to ship it back. Good luck!

EDIT: I just noticed this on the pickguard heaven site:

All "Tribute" asian import models require the original guard be sent for duplication.

Another reason to just return the guitar...

Hey Brad,

If the guitar has "a broken part" on delivery why not return as broken? This was not delivered as described. Talk up the chain at the Prymaxe.

We're you on the old GLDP? I thought I remembered the bscur name from the hazy past. :D

Good luck with the guitar.
Cya,
Sam

Brad,

Please check your PMs as I sent you one this morning but you have not yet read it. G&L is in need of your contact information so that they can get in touch with you.

Hope this helps.

I would like to see a photo of this Tribute Legacy. I am not aware of any Tribute Legacy models with an orange/cream pickguard. I'd also like to know the first four digits of the serial number, as that will tell
the build year and month. For details on posting photos, please see: Tutorial: Posting photos.

Looking forward to seeing what exactly the dealer sent you. :searching:

G&LDP and G&L update and positive result

Post by bscur »

G&LDP and G&L came through in a big way to remedy the faulty Prymaxe product. Thanks G&L. In the end G&L took care of it on their own. Very impressive. I won't ever deal with Prymaxe again, but G&L remains at the top of my favorite guitar companies. I appreciate it.

Glad to hear it worked out for you!

Did you get a replacement guitar? If so, it does not exist without photo proof. ;)
And don't forget to add it to our G&L Registry, too.
