Hi there,
I'm a photographer at a music store selling G&L. I generally have first contact with new guitars from the factory and have noticed an ongoing issue that concerns me and I'd love some feedback and info.
Nearly every G&L guitar I handle has a foggy residue on the guitar. I have been informed that this is from the case glue evaporating during shipment. I've had to resort to using latex gloves when handling this brand (the only brand I've ever had this issue with), because the residue causes itching and a rash if i touch it bare handed. Furthermore, the residue seems to stay on the guitar even after I use a polishing cloth to wipe it away. I often have to spend many minutes and multiple cloths to remove all visible residue, to be able to properly photograph the instruments. The smell is pretty awful too.
As a photographer, this is an issue, but I imagine this is also a concern for customers getting their new guitar. Does anyone else have this issue? I've been told that G&L is aware of the issue, yet in my 1 year handling these instruments, it remains. Can anyone confirm the source of the residue? I'd really like to know what I'm handling and breathing in when I work on these instruments.
Finally, this post is not meant to bash G&L or their instruments. We all love them here at the store! Just curious for personal and health reasons really.

Re: Glue Residue on New Guitars from Factory
Hi Erik,
Thanks for your post and concern. There is often animal glue that hasn't fully hardened in the cases, and I don't think that's going to change, as it hasn't in decades as many around here know. It does fully harden eventually, however. If you can let me know the name of the dealer we may find some way to help facilitate this.
Thanks.
Dave
