Mustang Equivalent
Does G&L make a model that would be equivalent or similar to a Fender American Special Mustang guitar?

Re: Mustang Equivalent
It's hard to say what would be an "equivalent" between G&L and Fender. The only models that closely follow the earlier Fender designs are Legacies and ASAT Classics. As far as getting close to a Mustang vibe, I'd say the choices in current production are the Fallout and SC-2 models. Unlike Mustangs, though, they will have a 25.5" scale.
I don't keep up with what FMIC is selling, but after taking a quick look at their website I'd suggest looking at the Fallout as a starting point. An imported Tribute Series G&L will be on par with an American Fender. Stepping up to an American G&L will let you customize it to a great degree, and will put you up into custom-shop build quality.
If you ask about Fallouts around here, you will probably get a lot of first-hand advice. I haven't played one, but they are very popular with forum members.
Good luck with the search!

Re: Mustang Equivalent
I agree with what Ken and Ff said.
As a long time (well, since Monday) Fallout Tribute owner, they are very nice guitars. I was a little surprised at the size of the neck. Not a baseball bat, but a little bigger than I expected. I think Mustangs tended towards smaller necks also (I haven't played one in many years).

Re: Mustang Equivalent
I look at a Mustang as a Strat with only 2 pickups, and a short scale. I don't think G&L has anything like that, and rightfully so.
Mustangs are OK for kids or players with small hands, but I always found them hard to keep in tune with that shorter scale. The pickups also seem weenie sounding to me.
Get an SC-2. They're better.
My 2¢.

Re: Mustang Equivalent
As it's been stated, there's no direct equivalent but you may like to read the following article: http://tonereport.com/blogs/tone-tips/w ... u/page/two
In short:
In short:
If you like Mustangs: Try an SC-2. This feels a bit like a cheat: Elsewhere, I’ve glossed over ergonomics in favor of sonics; here, the parallel is stronger in the ergonomics. The SC-2 references the Mustang’s body shape, and Mustang users won’t be put off by the cursed set screw in the tremolo. The smaller body means the SC-2 doesn’t deliver the ASAT Special’s rich tones despite the use of the jumbo MFD’s, but this guitar still delivers a lot more top end than a Mustang. This means SC-2 players can get the Mustang’s clear midrange…and a whole lot more. While embracing the SC-2’s body will be like coming home for Mustang lovers, this is the only guitar in this article to offer only one neck profile, and it has a 12-inch radius. This likely will be great news for some players, but for those who have cut their teeth on classic Mustangs, it tmight provide a stumbling block. - See more at: http://tonereport.com/blogs/tone-tips/w ... I play an SC-2 and very much like it compared to a Fender Mustang, still has that smaller, tight waist body that is easy love on stage!
