91 Legacy???

Hi

I am looking at a Gxxxxxx Legacy. The serial number on the neck plate dates the guitar as a late 1991 model. I know that the neck plate might be non-original and I know that one should look in the neck pocket for the manufacture date etc. but just wondering: has anyone seen a Legacy from late 1991? I know the standard first year of production is 1992.

Ken,

The S/N on G&Ls were not used in sequence. So you might find S/Ns in the Registry close to yours on instruments with data stamps from '91. But then again, if everybody would have taken a peek for the time stamps, you could also easily have found S/N a couple of years away. IMHO, given that BBE took over in November 1991 and they were the first to issue the Legacy, it is very unlikely you'd find a '91 time stamps when you take of the neck.

Actually, there is one known one in the G&L Registry: G030129. It has a neck build date of 12/19/1991 and body date of 12/31/1991.
There might be more. If you Ken does get the one he is querying on, a neck removal will be needed to confirm the actual build dates.

I bought the guitar. The neck pocket date is 3/9/92 so it is indeed a 92 Legacy. So I suppose any further postings about this instrument will go into the "92 and later" forum
