Greetings from the UK

Post by Kezz TCP »

I play guitar in UK Psychedelic band, The Cream People. I am the proud owner of an incredible G&L S-500 Tribute, even if it is a cheap one. It's finished in natural swamp ash - and it's up there with the best of 'em. I've just fitted a Roland GK3 to it - as I play a lot of stuff through a Roland GR 55 Guitar Synth - so it's about to get a lot more use in the studio.

Hi Kezz TCP, welcome to the G&LDP forum(s). Congrats on your S500.
I like the ambient nature of your tunes. You should send a demo to the folks at XPN.org (wxpn, radio station of univ of pennsylvania). They play similar music on a show some nights called "stars end". best wishes...

Hey John! Thanks for the welcome and for listening to some of our stuff! Thanks too for the heads up on the radio station. I'll sort something out for them. The S-500 Tribute gets it's first band workout with the GR 55 synth tonight - it's such a good guitar - and to be honest, i can't see how a USA built version could top it. I see you have a couple of Tributes. Have you tried the higher end models? If so, where do they win over the Tributes?

Best wishes to you too.

I have not tried usa models of G&L guitars yet, though my brother has a couple of the basses.
None of the dealers near me carry them. The trib models have exceeded my expectations re: materials, build quality, resonance, tone, looks, playability, value. The legacy's DF bridge/tailpiece, passive treble and bass master controls and splendid alnico pups, along with the asat special's saddle lock bridge/tailpiece and bitchin' large coil mfd pups have made these 2 guitars a joy to play at gigs and rehearsals. They just sound great and are fun to play.

That being said, i am going to cop a usa comanche when i get the right one in my sights, and see what all the excitement is about. Our colleagues on the forum rave about the nuances of the usa made G&L's, old and new.

Here's the xpn.org weekly schedule http://xpn.org/xpn-programs/program-guide/?v=1
You can stream it live online. I especially like the blues show on saturday nights. Star's End comes after "the blues and beyond," on sunday morning EST 1-6 am.

Let us know how it goes with the S-500 and post some pic's!
