Can i ask if the only reason people block the trem ...

Post by geoff douglas »

Hi guys,
Can i ask if the only reason people block the trem is to prevent all strings going out of tune if one string breaks when performing?. Is there other reasons, besides trouble shooting a tuning issue?
Cheers

one more reason is if the Band plays songs with different tuning .... halfway through our set we switch to drop D tuning and it's about impossible to tune a DF that quick in between songs .... saddleock takes about 15 seconds and is no problems ... breaking a string it would be hard to beat a saddlelock guitar with locking tuners for a quick change

Fumble Fingers makes a good point.

Also, if you're doing bends, like a double stop where you're holding down one or two strings while bending another string, the tuning stays relatively stable with the trem blocked off.

Thanks Will for the reply. I guess i won't have that problem for some time though, if at all ever. I'm still having trouble with the lead riff in LOLA, lol, patience and practice they say, i hope there right.
Can i ask too if when good guitarists use the trem do they want a minimum of 1 octave high.
thanks again

I guess its a silly question as i understand there are probably few songs that need a big range of vibrato but i just dont know what range is considered acceptable. I only bring this up because both my sc-3's bridge heights are set quite low, im thinking now maybe too low if i decide to sell them and the prospective buyer wants to whammy the hell out of them. Is there such a thing as an accepted vibrato range.
thanks again
