Looks a lot like Fender's '70s Walnut color.
You can never have too many ASATs!

Yeah it does. Here's what Dave said about it:GGJaguar wrote:Looks a lot like Fender's '70s Walnut color.
We blended the Whiskey for the soft maple bodies on Cantrell models some years back, but at some point we finally tried it on swamp ash. Whoa...

I really dig this color. I'm picturing a whiskey Fallout with cream guard. Although the black looks really good, too.
Does G&L manage that AGB guitar builder site? Can they get the two new colors on there, or is the admin someone else?

It reminds me of the "root beer" finish (Clear over mahogany) on early G&Ls:
I wonder how it would look over the mahogany G&L uses these days.

I had a walnut finish telecaster custom in the 70's, looked alot like the 1st pic of the ASAT above.
Always loved that finish and they are hard to find now a days. Lovin the whiskey!

No, G&L does not manage the AGB G&L Guitar builder tool. See this post: G&L On Line Guitar Builder.lefty_major wrote:I really dig this color. I'm picturing a whiskey Fallout with cream guard. Although the black looks really good, too.

The AGB folks would be responsible for updating it. With the recent release of the new US Dealer Price List,
I would guess that they will be working on the updates to their builder soon.
Also, see this post: Updated and added Current_* posts in G&L Knowledgebase ..., as I have updated the
Knowledgebase with the current options and instrument specs.

Yeah, Whiskey is a great color, but let me paraphrase Will Rogers:
"I've never seen a G&L FINISH I didn't like"!

john o and I must have had related teles from the 70's, I had a tele deluxe in this color that was a lot of fun. Those things are hard to come by anymore. Now I can't decide between Whisky or Old tobacco sunburst which is back in the color mix.
Thanks for the GAS G&L

Agreed. They're both great lookers. Nice and warm looking. Today I'd lean toward Whisky but hard to say without getting a visual with a pickguard and fretboard in the mix.sam wrote:... I can't decide between Whisky or Old tobacco sunburst which is back in the color mix...

Sam, here's one of my only pic's of the walnut tele from 1976. I think the guitar was a 73 or 74 cause it had the fender amp knobs.
Yes, that's my 11 y/o brother with a gibson EB3-L, and an old road worthy ampeg V-4B that we called "the fridge". memories...

Great picture John. I remember having hair like that! I think my mother had those same curtains too.

Case 24, i have come to recognize that short hair is a blessing! (especially when it is gray!).
Yeah, those curtains were totally 70's!
Fumble fingers, the challenge for Jim was the long neck. I don't know what the scale was on the EB3-L, but the last thing he needed at 11 y/o was a "long neck."
He is a really hot bassist, now, and of his 9 basses, 2 are G&L. He got me interested in the brand.
Sam, do you have pics of the tele deluxe (2 hb's and a strat neck, right?)?

john o,
Unfortunately no pics of the tele deluxe, too many moves over the years. It was a the two humbucker version. Got an ASAT Deluxe to fill that space these days.

john, I gutted the pups on the ASAT Deluxe. To my tone deaf ear they were a bit muddy and I was looking for a hotter sound at the time, this was done maybe 5 years ago, and this is my biggest guitar mod.
It now has a Dimarzio Air Norton in neck and Dimarzio Evolution in bridge (I'm a Dimarzio fan), made the coil split switch to go to bridge only, wired the push pull to split the neck only, and added a 4 way switch. I was thinking ASAT Deluxe, Bluesboy, ASAT, HB and more all rolled into one! It is mainly a hotter version of the ASAT Deluxe. Can't compare to big MFD's at all.

wow, your asat deluxe does sound like a hot guitar, sam. i have a dimarzio dual sound at the bridge in my les paul from the 70's. basically a super distortion with the coil split mini-switch, which made it very versatile when it was my only guitar for the longest time.
