G&L Baritone?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

G&L Baritone?

Post by Haolemon »

Has G&L ever built such a beast, or would they do so on a one-off basis?

Thanks

Yes and no.

Yes, there is a G&L baritone in existence and it is shown as the first color picture in George Fullerton's "Guitars from George & Leo - How Leo Fender and I Built G&L Guitars" (Hal Leonard, 2005, ISBN 0-634-06922-5). The caption for that picture reads 'This baritone bass guitar is the last instrument that Leo Fender and George Fullerton built before Leo died. It was assembled the day Leo died; he never got to see it.' However, this is incorrect. Dale Hyatt assembled the instrument on March 19, 1991 and left it on Leo's chair (see the picture of the letter written by Dale at the bottom of this post). Unfortunately, Leo wasn't able to come in the next day and passed away on March 21, 1991.

No, they have still not released it commercially neither as one-offs, CCD Limited Edition, nor custom order.

Hope this helps,
