I was noodling around on my 2004 ASAT Classic tonight. I had it plugged into my little Victoria 518 and I must say that I am amazed at the variation of tones I'm able to get with this combination. The piano like lows I can get on the neck pickup are truly amazing, especially when you consider that the 518 only has an 8" Weber speaker in it. Rolling of the tone knob while cranking up the guitar and amp volume results in some very convincing Clapton like "woman" tone. I was playing some "Sunshine of your love" riffs and was very impressed with the humbucker like tone. The bridge pickup is great for crunchy lead tones or can be clean and jangly if you want; very versatile. The guitar is set up with DR Pure Blues 10-46 gauge strings; these string have a very nice feel to them and seem a great match for this guitar.
I'm no expert but I thought I'd give my tone report in case anyone is sitting on the fence regarding one of these fine guitars. I also highly recommend the Victoria 518 to anyone looking for a high quality amp to match high quality of G&L guitars.
Really enjoying my ASAT Classic
